AI Agent Panel on Dashboards

Overview

The AI Agent opens in a panel on the right of the dashboard. The dashboard narrows to make room, so you can ask for a change and watch it happen without leaving the page.

The panel is available to everyone who can start an AI Agent chat. For other users, the dashboard buttons open the AI Agent on its own page, as before.

Open the panel

  • Chat — in the dashboard header, opens the panel with an empty chat. This button was previously called Ask AI.
  • Annotate — the icon button in the header, previously Pin. Click it, select a widget, and type your question in Ask about this widget…. The question goes to the panel, and the agent knows which widget it is about. Press Esc to leave annotate mode.
  • Cmd+J (macOS) or Ctrl+J (Windows) — opens and closes the panel and puts the cursor in the message field.

What the agent knows about your view

You do not have to describe what is on the screen. With your first message, and again whenever the view changes, the agent receives:

  • the dashboard and the page (tab) you are on;
  • the data table the page uses;
  • the selected period;
  • the filters you applied, with their values.

This context is not shown in the chat — your messages appear exactly as you typed them.

Watch the dashboard update

When the agent changes the dashboard — adds a widget, edits a metric, changes a filter — the dashboard reloads in place while the agent works. You do not have to refresh the page.

Arrange the panel

  • Docked — the panel sits next to the dashboard and stays on screen while you scroll. Drag its left edge to resize it; double-click the edge to return to the default width.
  • Floating — the panel opens as a window in the bottom-right corner, over the dashboard.

Switch between the two in the panel header. A running conversation continues when you switch or close the panel. Your choice and the panel width are remembered in your browser.

The panel header also has buttons to start a new chat and to open the chat as a full page.

Come back to a conversation

The panel remembers the last chat for each dashboard in your browser. When you reopen the dashboard, even after a page reload, the panel opens that chat with its history, and the agent keeps its context. Click New chat to start over.

Note

The last chat is stored in your browser. On another browser or computer, the panel starts with a new chat. Earlier chats are still available in the AI Agent.

Custom pipelines

The same panel opens from Edit with AI on a custom pipeline's page. The agent knows which pipeline you are on. While it works, the pipeline on the page and its run history update on their own. The panel remembers the last chat for each pipeline, as it does for dashboards. See Pipeline Runs, Schedules & Artifacts.
