Redash

Updated on Jul 7, 2026

Description

Redash is an open-source data visualization and querying tool. Teams connect Redash to their databases, write SQL queries, and build dashboards on top of the results. Improvado connects to your self-hosted Redash instance and extracts the catalog of configured data sources and saved queries — names, SQL text, refresh schedules, tags, and authorship — so you can audit and analyze your BI layer in your data warehouse.

Setup guide

Follow this setup guide to connect Redash to Improvado.

Click the Make a new Connection on the Connections page. Categories on the Data sources page group all available platforms. Use a search to find Redash.

Click on the Redash tile.

Get your Redash instance URL and API key:

Log in to your Redash instance and copy the instance URL from the browser address bar, for example https://redash.example.com.

Click your avatar in the top-right corner and select Edit Profile.

Open the Account tab and copy the value in the API Key section.

Back in Improvado, fill in the connection form:

  • Redash URL — the instance URL you copied in Step 3.1.
  • API Key — the key you copied in Step 3.3.

Click Connect. After the connection completes successfully, the Redash connection appears in your Connected sources list.

Select the Redash data sources you want to work with as accounts. When the connection status is Active, you can move on to data extraction.

To extract data from the connected source, follow the instructions on how to set up data extraction.

Note

  • The API key inherits the permissions of its owner. Connect with a user that has access to all the data sources you plan to extract.

Schema information

The schema information shows all report types you can use to extract data from Redash.
