Plaid - Troubleshooting

Written by Ilya Sudakov

Most Plaid issues come from the bank login behind the connection, which Plaid calls an Item, not from the connection settings in Improvado.

Extractions fail with an error that Plaid cannot access this Item

The bank asks its user to sign in again, for example after a password change. Repair the bank login in your application with Plaid Link update mode. The access token stays the same, so the Improvado connection resumes on its own with the next extraction.

If you link the bank again from scratch instead, Plaid creates a new bank login with a new access token and new account IDs. Add it as a new connection and select its accounts in your extractions.

The first extraction fails right after the bank was linked

Plaid needs some time to prepare the transactions of a newly linked bank login. Run the extraction again later.

The extraction fails because a product is not enabled

Your Plaid account must include the Transactions product in Production. Enable it in the Plaid Dashboard or contact Plaid.

The connection form returns an authentication error

Check that you entered the client_id and the Production secret (not the Sandbox one), and the Production access token of a bank login that still exists.
