Google Search Console - Troubleshooting
While configuring your Google Search Console connection, you may encounter several issues. Understanding these common errors can help streamline the setup process and facilitate quick resolutions.
Data discrepancy issues
Totals Do Not Match Between UI and Extracted Data
Discrepancies occur when comparing UI totals with extracted data that includes multiple dimensions (e.g., date, query, page, country, device). Granular extracts can count rows multiple times across combinations, leading to totals that differ from the UI. The UI aggregates data in a way that avoids overlaps, so direct comparisons with detailed extracts usually don’t match.
Solution
Define the reporting goal clearly
- UI-matching totals: Use the simplest extraction possible, ideally Analytics Wide report with only the page dimension (or another single relevant dimension). This ensures a direct match with UI data.
- Detailed analysis: Use Page Analytics Full report type for multi-dimensional breakdowns (date, query, country, device, etc.). Expect discrepancies in totals and focus on trends and detailed insights rather than absolute numbers.
