Description

Talkwalker is a social listening and consumer intelligence platform. It tracks what is being said about a brand, a product or a topic across news sites, blogs, forums, message boards and social networks, and turns those mentions into sentiment, reach and engagement analytics.

Improvado extracts your Talkwalker data — the topics, filters, channels, events and panels each project is configured with, the individual mentions those topics matched, and the analytics on top of them: volume, engagement and reach over time, plus breakdowns such as sentiment, language and country. It lands in your data warehouse next to your ad spend, CRM and web analytics, so brand conversation can be reported alongside the campaigns that drove it.

Authorization

Talkwalker connects with an API access token, which you generate in your Talkwalker account and paste into Improvado as the API Key. There is no OAuth flow and nothing to install.

Important

Talkwalker API access is a paid add-on and is not included with a standard Talkwalker seat. If the connection authenticates successfully but no Talkwalker projects are available to extract, your subscription may not include API access. Contact your Talkwalker account manager to add API access.

Use a Talkwalker account that can see every project you want to extract: Improvado can only read the projects that account has access to.

Setup guide

Follow our setup guide to connect Talkwalker to Improvado.

Click the Connections in the left navigation bar.
Categories on the Data sources page group all available platforms. Use a search to find the required one.

Click on the Talkwalker tile.

Generate a Talkwalker API access token:

Open Account settings → API / Developer.

Create a new API application, or open an existing one.

Generate an access token and copy it. Read access is enough for Improvado.

Back in Improvado, enter a Connection Name of your choice, paste the token into the Access token field, then click Connect.

After the connection is completed, the Talkwalker connection will appear in your Connected sources list.

When the connection status is Active, and the account status column shows a number of accounts, you can move on to data extraction. Each Talkwalker project your token can reach appears as a separate account, so you choose which projects to extract.

Troubleshooting

The connection is created, but no accounts appear. This almost always means the Talkwalker account behind the token has no API subscription. API access is a paid add-on, and without it a token is still issued and authenticates normally, but no projects are returned, so there is nothing for Improvado to extract. Ask your Talkwalker account manager to enable API access, then generate the token again and reconnect.

Improvado does not accept the token. Check that you pasted the API access token generated for an API application, not your Talkwalker sign-in password, and that the token has not been revoked in Talkwalker.

A project you expect is missing from the account list. A token only reaches the projects its Talkwalker account has access to. Ask a Talkwalker administrator to grant that account access to the project, then reconnect the source in Improvado to refresh the account list.

Limits

Talkwalker API access is a paid add-on and is licensed separately from a Talkwalker platform seat. Your Talkwalker plan also determines how much data can be pulled through the API, so a very deep historical backfill may need to be agreed with your Talkwalker account manager first.

Improvado extracts data per Talkwalker project. A project is Talkwalker's own container for a monitored topic set, and you select which projects to extract when you set up the extraction.

Release notes

Talkwalker does not publish a separate API changelog. The latest state of the API is always reflected in the Talkwalker Developer documentation, which the Talkwalker team keeps up to date.
