Slack conversation content comes to Improvado — messages from the channels you invite the app to, thread replies, private channel messages, direct and group direct messages with the app, a file inventory, and calls.

The Slack connector could already tell you which channels exist and who is in them. It can now read the conversations themselves, so an AI agent working in Improvado can answer questions about what was actually said and decided — without connecting a second tool.

New reports

• Messages — messages in the public channels the Improvado app has been invited to, with their authors, thread links, reactions and attachments.
• Message Replies — replies inside threads in those channels. Slack returns only thread starters in the main channel history, so this is where most of a discussion lives.
• Private Channel Messages — the same, for private channels the Improvado app has been invited to.
• Direct Messages and Group Direct Messages — conversations the Improvado app itself takes part in.
• Files — an inventory of files shared in those conversations, with names, types, uploaders and links. File contents are not downloaded.
• Calls — calls registered through the Improvado app, read back with their current participants, so you can see who actually joined.

All seven reports refresh incrementally, so a scheduled extraction picks up new messages rather than re-reading history every run.

The agent can act in Slack too

With the Read & Write permission set, the Improvado agent can post a message, add a reaction, or set up a call when you ask it to in chat. A call is registered in Slack and posted into the channel as a native call card with a join button, and the Calls report then reads it back with its participants.

To have the agent act as you rather than as the Improvado app, connect with the new OAuth (Your Own Slack App) method: your workspace creates a Slack app once from the manifest in the setup guide, and each person connects with its Client ID and Client Secret and approves with their own Slack account. The agent then searches, reads and posts as that person, including through Slack's MCP server. Reports are not extracted through these personal connections.

Two setup steps that matter

1. Permissions. The default Read Only permission set already includes message content, so a new connection needs no extra choice. Read & Write adds what the agent needs to post, react and set up calls, and Custom lets you pick individual permissions. An existing connection keeps the permissions it was created with, so one made before these reports existed needs reconnecting before they return anything.

2. Invite the app to each channel. Slack does not let an app read a channel it is not a member of — this is a Slack rule, not an Improvado setting. The Messages, Message Replies and Calls reports therefore read only the public channels the Improvado app has been invited to. In every channel you want covered, run:

/invite @Improvado

The Is Member column of the Channels report shows which channels are covered. If the app has not been added to any public channel yet, these reports stop with an error that says so rather than returning an empty table.

Direct messages work differently — there is nothing to invite the app into. The Direct Messages report covers conversations between a person and the Improvado app, and Group Direct Messages the group conversations someone added the app to. Both stay empty until such a conversation exists.

What is and is not read

These reports contain the content of workplace conversations, and the message text, block, attachment and file fields are marked as personal data in the field metadata so they can be governed accordingly. The reports read only the conversations the app has been added to. Message history is never read from channels the app was not invited to, and the Improvado app does not request access to Slack search, canvases, or the ability to add itself to conversations.

Direct messages are narrower than they sound: Slack does not let an app join a conversation between two people, so the Direct Messages report covers only the thread between a person and Improvado itself, and group direct messages only where someone deliberately invited the app in.
