Field change LinkedIn Ads Rolled out

Twenty-six delivery metrics were removed from the Creative with Conversions report. LinkedIn never returns spend, impressions, clicks, engagement, video or reach data under a conversion breakdown, so these columns were always zero. Conversion metrics are unchanged.

What to do
No action is required to keep your extraction running, and no conversion data changes. If your reports, recipes or dashboards read spend, impressions, clicks or any other delivery metric from this report, repoint them at the Creatives report, which carries the real values.

The Creative with Conversions report no longer offers delivery metrics. Twenty-six fields were removed because LinkedIn never returned values for them in this report — every one of them was zero on every row, for every account, since the report was introduced. Conversion metrics are untouched and keep the values they already hold.

Why LinkedIn returns nothing for these metrics

This report breaks data down by conversion, so each row is one creative and one conversion action on one day. A single person can trigger several conversions from the same impression, and LinkedIn cannot split that impression between them. Rather than divide the delivery figures arbitrarily, the LinkedIn Ads API returns no delivery data at all under a conversion breakdown — some metrics come back as zero, others are omitted from the response entirely.

This is a property of the LinkedIn API, not a recent change on either side. Improvado requested the fields anyway, so they were stored as permanent zeros, which made the report look like a full performance picture when it never was one.

What was removed

  • Cost — Spend, Spend Local Currency
  • Delivery — Impressions, Clicks, Action Clicks, Ad Unit Clicks, Text URL Clicks, Approximate Member Reach
  • Engagement — Total Engagements, Likes, Comments, Shares, Follows, One Click Leads, One Click Lead Form Opens
  • Video — Video Views, Video Completions, Video First Quartile Completions, Video Midpoint Completions, Video Third Quartile Completions
  • Viral — Viral Impressions, Viral Clicks, Viral Likes, Viral Comments, Viral Shares, Viral Followers

What stays

Every metric that carries real data remains: External Website Conversions, Post-Click Conversions, Post-View Conversions, Conversion Value In Local Currency, Viral Conversions, Viral Post-Click Conversions and Viral Post-View Conversions, along with Daily Budget and Total Budget, which come from the campaign itself rather than from the conversion breakdown. All dimensions and properties are unchanged.

Where to get spend, impressions and clicks

Use the Creatives report. It covers the same creatives with real delivery figures, because it does not break data down by conversion. To see conversions and delivery side by side, join the two reports on date, campaign and creative in a recipe or a transformation.

What to expect in your data

The removed fields stop appearing when you set up or edit an extraction, and extractions that currently select them stop collecting them. Columns already present in your tables keep their historical values, which were zero, and are no longer updated. No conversion figure changes, and no re-extraction is needed.

One behaviour is worth knowing and has not changed: this report returns rows only where a conversion was recorded. An account whose campaigns have no conversions attached produces no rows at all, even while it is spending. That is expected, and it is a separate matter from the fields removed here.
