Meta is making several Facebook Ads reporting breakdowns opt-in per ad account; reports that rely on them may return empty until the breakdown is enabled in Meta Ads Manager.
- Deadline
- August 6, 2026
- Affected
- Device / placement reports Frequency reports Hourly reports
- What to do
- Action required. Enable the affected breakdowns for each ad account in Meta Ads Manager (account-admin access needed). Once enabled, Improvado picks up the data automatically — no change is needed on the Improvado side.
This is a Meta-side, per-account setting change — not an Improvado extraction issue. It's resolved by enabling the breakdown in Meta Ads Manager; once enabled, Improvado collects the data automatically.
What's changing
Announced in Meta's May 2026 out-of-cycle API changes and effective August 6, 2026, several reporting breakdowns become opt-in per ad account. If an account is not opted in, report types that rely on these breakdowns may return empty for that account:
-
Device / placement (
impression_device) — and any report that combines it, e.g. placement/device reports. - Frequency (
frequency_value). -
Hourly, by audience time zone
(
hourly_stats_aggregated_by_audience_time_zone).
How to fix it
In Meta Ads Manager → Breakdown, enable the relevant breakdown for each ad account. This must be done per ad account and requires account-admin access on your side.
Good to know
- Data starts flowing from roughly the next day and appears to be forward-only — historical periods before you opt in are unlikely to backfill.
- For these particular breakdowns, Improvado can also retrieve the data through Meta's asynchronous reporting as a fallback, so the impact may be reduced — but enabling it in Ads Manager remains the reliable fix.
- Once enabled, Improvado picks the data up automatically — nothing changes on the Improvado side.
