User roles

Learn how you can assign and manage user roles in your team to control access based on responsibilities

Improvado offers a variety of user roles to help clients manage access to the platform according to their specific job responsibilities. Each role comes with specific permissions to ensure that users can interact with the product in a way that best suits their needs while keeping data and operations secure.

Roles can be assigned to each user in the workspace by users with the Workspace Admin role.

Available user roles

Viewer

The Viewer role is designed for users who need to monitor the data flow and have visibility into pipelines without the ability to make changes.

Permissions:

  • Connections & Extractions: View only
  • Destinations & Loads: View only
  • Transform: View only
  • Data Explorer: View only
  • Users & Roles: No access

Who is it for?

  • Users who need to understand how data moves through the platform but do not need to perform any edits or modifications.

Primary Use Case:

  • Ensuring visibility over data pipelines to assist with monitoring and reporting tasks.

Editor

The Editor role grants full control over the creation, updating, and deletion of data pipelines. Editors can modify data processes but cannot manage users or roles.

Permissions:

  • Connections & Extractions: Full access
  • Destinations & Loads: Full access
  • Transform: Full access
  • Data Explorer: Full access
  • Users & Roles: No access

Who is it for?

  • Users who need to actively manage and edit data flows but do not need administrative control over other users.

Primary Use Case:

  • Managing all aspects of data pipelines, from data extraction to transformation and loading.

Workspace Admin

The Workspace Admin role provides complete control over the workspace, including managing data pipelines and overseeing user access and roles.

Permissions:

  • Connections & Extractions: Full access
  • Destinations & Loads: Full access
  • Transform: Full access
  • Data Explorer: Full access
  • Users & Roles: Full access

Who is it for?

  • Users responsible for managing the entire workspace, including both data processes and user management.

Primary Use Case:

  • Overseeing all data processes and managing team members’ access and roles within the workspace.

Data Manager

The Data Manager role focuses on managing data connections and ensuring that all necessary credentials and ad accounts are correctly configured.

Permissions:

  • Connections & Extractions: Full access
  • Destinations & Loads: View only
  • Transform: View only
  • Data Explorer: Full access
  • Users & Roles: No access

Who is it for?

  • Users are tasked with setting up and maintaining connections and credentials for data extraction.

Primary Use Case:

  • Managing ad accounts, marketing credentials, and ensuring proper data pipeline connectivity.

Data Load Manager

The Data Load Manager role is responsible for ensuring that data is successfully loaded into the designated data warehouse or data lake.

Permissions:

  • Connections & Extractions: View only
  • Destinations & Loads: Full access
  • Transform: View only
  • Data Explorer: Full access
  • Users & Roles: No access

Who is it for?

  • Users responsible for managing the loading of data into storage systems.

Primary Use Case:

  • Overseeing data loading processes and ensuring that pipelines are running smoothly.

Data Analyst

The Data Analyst role is designed for users who focus on transforming and analyzing data. They can view data pipelines, apply transformations, and ensure data is ready for analysis.

Permissions:

  • Connections & Extractions: View and update only
  • Destinations & Loads: View and update only
  • Transform: Full access
  • Data Explorer: Full access
  • Users & Roles: No access

Who is it for?

  • Analysts responsible for ensuring data is properly transformed and structured for reporting and insights.

Primary Use Case:

  • Applying data transformations and ensuring data readiness for downstream analysis without managing credentials or user roles.

How to manage the roles of workspace members

  1. If you have a Workspace Admin role, you can also manage the members’ roles in the specific workspace. Open the Your Team tab.
  1. Click on the member's name to open the User Details panel.
  2. Change the user role in the Role dropdown for the specific workspace.
  1. Don’t forget to click the Save button to save your changes.
