How to work with PII fields in your reports

Updated on Mar 24, 2026

Overview

This document provides step-by-step instructions on how to exclude Personally Identifiable Information (PII) fields from your reports.

Steps to remove sensitive data from your reports

__wf_reserved_inherit
  1. While setting up data extraction, use the Labels filter to show only fields that are labeled as potentially containing PII.
  2. Deselect them from your report by using the checkbox.

By removing these fields, you ensure they are not included in the final report.

Double-Check the Data

While the PII label is a helpful indicator, it is only a suggestion that the field may contain PII data. Always review the content of your data to ensure that no sensitive information is included, especially if the labeling is automated.

We recommend that you verify the nature of the data in each field to ensure compliance with the necessary regulations.

About hashing of PII fields

In addition to blocking, Improvado supports field hashing — irreversible SHA-256 encryption of sensitive string property fields. Hashed values cannot be recovered, but identical inputs always produce identical hashes, so hashed fields can still be used as join keys across datasets.

To enable hashing, open the extraction order settings and select the checkboxes in the Hashing column for the desired fields. For full details, see Field Hashing.

Note
Field hashing is not available for all report types. If you do not see the Hashing column in your extraction order settings, please contact your CSM (Customer Success Manager) for assistance.
